A welcoming Buddhist culture

As with most of their Southeast Asian neighbors, Cambodians lead a quiet life, are welcoming to foreigners and their Buddhist culture encourages respect for elders.

There are many temples in Cambodia (including, but not limited to, Angkor Wat in Siem Reap), and life is governed by the Buddhist calendar.

In terms of language, the most common is Khmer, but Cambodians are generally able to speak English in the big cities.

A country influenced by French culture

Cambodia is a former French colony, so there are many traces of French influence in the architecture and names of streets and buildings. For example, Boulevard Norodom in the capital Phnom Penh is sometimes referred to as the “Champs-Elysées of Phnom Penh”.

French expatriates living in Cambodia will find their feet again… and it’s interesting to note that Cambodians are very fond of French cuisine.
