Are you planning a vacation in Thailand this summer, or a move abroad? Good news: since May 1, 2022, Thailand is once again accessible without a PCR test on arrival for all vaccinated travelers.

More flexible entry rules

Following the improvement in the COVID-19 situation in the country, Thailand has decided to relax its entry restrictions as of this May.

For vaccinated travelers: the PCR test on arrival has been abolished. In practical terms, this means there’s no longer any risk of having to undergo a 10-day quarantine in the event of a positive test.

Of course, it’s up to you to monitor your health, and the Ministry of Health recommends (but does not require) that you have an ATK antigen test 5 days after your arrival.

For the time being, you still need to apply via the Thailand Pass platform(access via this link), where you will be asked to provide a vaccination certificate and health insurance with a minimum cover of $10,000.

What about unvaccinated travellers?

If you haven’t been vaccinated, you can also enter without quarantine: instead of a vaccination certificate, you’ll need a negative PCR test carried out no more than 72 hours before departure.

In the absence of a test, you will have to spend a minimum of 5 nights in a certified hotel.

What are your expectations for the rest of 2022?

The Thai government plans to continue easing the rules. As of June 1, the Thailand Pass application will remain valid for foreign nationals, but will only require a passport, a vaccination certificate and $10,000 in health cover. The QR code will be issued automatically.

In terms of tourism, the lifting of restrictions should enable Thailand to welcome between 5 and 15 million visitors in 2022, according to a government spokesman. Tourists are expected to generate between THB 630 million and THB 1.2 billion, according to TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand) projections.

However, we will have to wait until 2026 to return to pre-pandemic arrival levels (40 million visitors in 2019).
